Thyroid Balancing

Message From Dr. Miskell

Low Thyroid can have an adverse effect on so many aspects of your life

Low-functioning thyroid has become all too common.

Our team of highly trained providers excel in diagnosing and treating thyroid issues, employing a comprehensive approach that encompasses both holistic and conventional medical protocols. We use our own lab and keep costs down for our patients. Dr Miskell prides herself as a thyroid doctor who can offer effective thyroid treatment at a better cost than most other clinics here in Austin. Please note that we do not have an endocrinologist on staff, so we do not do surgery or treatment of nodules. But we have spent over 20 years refining our Hormone Replacement Therapy Program and we can handle your Thyroid imbalance, including hypothyroidism and hashimotos.

Regrettably, it’s not uncommon to encounter individuals exhibiting numerous symptoms of thyroid disorders who previously underwent testing only to be reassured that everything is “normal.” In some instances, individuals were prescribed thyroid medication that failed to alleviate their symptoms. At our center, we are dedicated to addressing thyroid concerns with precision and effectiveness.

Personalized and accurate thyroid treatment often leads to noticeable improvements for most patients within days or weeks of initiating the treatment, with a significant majority experiencing substantial enhancement shortly thereafter.

Are you ready to embrace a life of increased well-being, heightened energy, and the opportunity to reclaim the vitality you deserve?

Thyroid Treatment

Getting Your Thyroid Right

Recognized as the master hormone, the thyroid plays a pivotal role in regulating metabolism, body temperature, and various other bodily functions. Its influence extends to energy levels, body weight, and cognitive function.

The thyroid hormone serves a multifaceted purpose, aiding in the elimination of cellular waste, enhancing fat breakdown, promoting healthy hair growth on the scalp and eyebrows, and reducing cholesterol levels and body weight. Crucially, it contributes to preventing cognitive deterioration.

In the realm of women’s health, thyroid hormone is indispensable for fertility. Surprisingly, many women undergoing costly infertility treatments may find that thyroid hormone replacement is the key to addressing their needs.

Our expertise encompasses the treatment of a diverse range of thyroid disorders, including:

  • An under-active thyroid, Hypothyroidism.
  • Hashimoto’s Disease.
  • Other thyroid disorders involving challenges in converting T4 into T3

The most prevalent thyroid disorder we address is hypothyroidism—an underactive thyroid. In essence, hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland fails to produce sufficient thyroid hormone or is unable to effectively utilize the produced hormone, leading to symptoms associated with a sluggish metabolism. If you’re grappling with thyroid-related issues, we’re here to provide comprehensive and tailored solutions.

Hashimoto's Disease

Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disorder, is a very common cause of Hypothyroidism.

This autoimmune response is triggered by the body perceiving the thyroid gland as an invader, prompting the production of antibodies that launch an attack. The consequences are twofold: a significant drop in thyroid hormone levels, leading to hypothyroidism, and the gland’s release of excess hormones, causing hyperthyroidism spikes. As the antibodies continue their assault, the thyroid may become depleted, further contributing to insufficient hormone production and hypothyroidism.

Affecting approximately 1 in 4 women, Hashimoto’s Disease commonly manifests between ages 45 and 65, although it can occur at other stages of life and also affects men. Detecting this condition accurately necessitates blood tests specifically targeting antibodies, as standard TSH tests may not reveal the autoimmune aspect.

Given its autoimmune nature, relying solely on medication for thyroid treatment may fall short of addressing Hashimoto’s comprehensively. The roots of this disorder may extend to deficiencies in Vitamin D, Cortisol, or DHEA, as well as low levels of Iodine and Selenium.

While treating it as Hypothyroidism, it is also good to make some lifestyle changes as part of treatment.

About Us

Costs and Insurance

We have founded our practice on affordable pricing for exceptional health care.

We have very affordable cash rates for our lab testing…you will be pleasantly surprised!  However, established patients can use insurance for their labs. We cannot verify lab benefits for patients, so we recommend that you know your lab benefits prior to your lab draw.

We are designed as a cash-based practice, but our Billing Manager can provide you with a Superbill to file your own insurance claim.  However, Medicare does not allow this.  We are unable to provide Medicare patients with a Superbill.
